Puerto Rico Ministry Center

Established after the devastation of Hurricane Maria in 2017, the Send Relief Ministry Center, along with short-term mission trip teams, partners and local churches, has continued rebuilding and repairing the damage from natural disasters. Together, we are showing the people of Puerto Rico that they are not forgotten.

Puerto Rico Trip: June 8-14, 2024

Puerto Rico is a beautiful island, but it is also an island in need—physically, economically, and spiritually. Unfortunately, many in Puerto Rico are experiencing a crisis of hopelessness. An economic crisis from 2015, back-to-back categories 4 & 5 hurricanes in 2017, earthquakes in 2019-2020, category 1 hurricane in 2022, and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic have all taken their toll on the island’s residents.

Send Relief began responding to the needs in Puerto Rico after the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Thousands of volunteers were mobilized in the aftermath of the storms to rebuild damaged homes, distribute meals, and share the hope of Christ through service.

Send Relief has been able to rebuild over 300 homes, clean up communities, provide hundreds of backpacks (whether for back-to-school or emergency kits), and empower the local churches to share the gospel with those around them.

Mission teams will mainly engage in light construction to help repair and rebuild homes and churches. In addition, members of mission teams may participate in community outreach through prayer walking, meal distributions, etc.

Trip Details

The trip will take place from June 8-14, 2024. Currently the trip has 28 open spots (14 male & 14 female). Total cost for the trip should be less than $1200 (dependent on airfare) and will include transportation, lodging, meals, ministry supplies and insurance. In the past, the church has offered funds to offset the cost of the trip for members of First Baptist. The trip is open to anyone ages 12 and up. Anyone younger than 16 will need a parent to accompany them. A $200 deposit (per person) will secure your spot of the team. Click here to indicate your interest in the trip.

Participation in the trip will be contingent on attending five trainings. Three will be in person and two will be online.

Missions

While the exact day to day details have not been set and missions always includes flexibility, here is a sample schedule of what you could expect to experience while on mission in Puerto Rico.
